The commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Nelson Mandela's birth on July 18, 2018 is marked by the launch of a gold coin and several bank notes bearing his likeness.
The Central Bank of South Africa has reported that the first series of commemorative bank notes for the birth of South Africa's first black president, in limited numbers, consists of cuts of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 rands, the currency of the country.
The currency with the effigy of Nelson Mandela should be put in circulation since this Friday, July 13, 2018 in all the South African banks and retraces the key moments of the life of Mandela, in particular his education in the Eastern Cape countryside, as the son of a customary chief, his imprisonment that lasted for 27 years and the end of apartheid in 1994.
