Continuity: Apple wants to add wireless charging between its iPhone, iPad and MacBook

To further strengthen its ecosystem of devices, Apple imagines adding wireless charging between devices.

One of the strengths often put forward when 'we talk about Apple is the consistency of its ecosystem. The more devices you have designed by the apple, the better the user experience. In any case, this is the theory. A few years ago, the brand had for example introduced the synchronization of calls and SMS between the iPhone, the iPad and the MacBook.

This time, it is not emails that Apple would like to transmit more easily, but energy. A new patent for the brand has indeed been published by the responsible US office, where the firm imagines integrating magnetic wireless charging loops into its devices that can transmit energy in both directions. In other words, this patent would allow an Apple device to act both as a wireless charging cradle, and as a device to recharge.

For example, it would be possible to charge your iPhone by simply placing it on the surface of an iPad or next to the keyboard of a MacBook and enjoy the huge battery of these devices, in comparison with the small volume of the iPhone

One can also imagine that it could become possible to recharge one's devices in a bag, when they are stored together.

Stacking devices to recharge

Apple would also like both modes can be activated simultaneously. Thus, it would be possible to stack the devices on a wireless charging base, for example to put an iPhone on an iPad which is itself placed on the base, and reload all these devices.

It is also possible to imagine having a device like the MacBook be recharged by cable, and several mobile devices be recharged by the wireless MacBook. The patent has just been released, and it is too early to expect integration with the next generation of iPhone, especially since the arrival of this technology was not the subject of any rumor. After all, we are still waiting for the release of the Air Power mattress unveiled by Apple in September 2017.
