Four regions of the country (Guémon, Cavally, Nawa and San-Pédro), highlights the communiqué, have been identified for the effective start of REDD +, the preparatory work of which has just been completed.

Last Thursday in Abidjan, the National Committee and the Interministerial Technical Committee of REDD +, validated the "Readiness-package", a document which made it possible to take stock of the progress made by Côte d'Ivoire since the validation of its plan of preparing for REDD + and defining the actions to be taken to get to the stage of carrying out activities.

"The preparatory phase of REDD + Côte d'Ivoire is making significant progress of 8.8% in May 2016 in 58.8% in July 2018, "said the document quoting Colonel Ernest Ahoulou, Permanent Executive Secretary of this international mechanism in Côte d'Ivoire.

The country has lost more than 75% of its forests in 50 years, from 16 million hectares in 1960 to 3.4 million hectares in 2015.
