The Prime Minister, Paul Kaba Thiéba, proceeded to the official reception of digital communication infrastructure, this Tuesday, July 10, 2018 in Ouagadougou. This ceremony is part of the Regional Program of Communication Infrastructure in West Africa – Burkina Faso Project (PRICAO-BF), financed by the World Bank.
"Burkina Faso is now equipped to catch up with the coastal countries of the sub-region," said World Bank director of operations Pierre Laporte of the ceremony of the official reception of the digital communication infrastructures. This is an action within the framework of the Regional Program for Communication Infrastructure in West Africa – Burkina Faso Project (PRICAO-BF), financed by the World Bank in the form of a grant, at a cost of 11 , 5 billion CFA francs.
According to the director general of electronic communications infrastructures, Galiam Ouedraogo, this program, which came into effect on December 22, 2011, aims to connect Burkina Faso with the other countries of West Africa. "To do this, the program was organized into three components: improving connectivity, creating an enabling environment for connectivity and project management," he said.

According to Pierre Laporte, this program has made concrete progress in the digital sector in Burkina Faso. With regard to infrastructure, he cited: the Virtual Landing Point (VAP), which provides international capacity from submarine cables to Ouagadougou; a fiber optic link over 300 kilometers from Ouagadougou to the Ghana border via Manga and Po, with a ramp to Bagrépôle; Internet Exchange Point to Improve and Facilitate Local Internet Traffic Exchanges and Access to Local Content
With these delivered infrastructures, national, regional and international connectivity will improve costs for the benefit of users . According to the technicians, this program will contribute to the modernization of public administration and improve the efficiency and competitiveness of the private sector.
ICT at the heart of the challenges of globalization
« The quality and stability of electronic communication services are frequently criticized by consumers, "said Prime Minister Paul Kaba Thiéba. He added that this can not continue because "this is not tolerable by the government."
Today, information and communication technologies (ICT) are at the heart of competitiveness national economies, in this globalized world, said the head of the government. "Access to ICT now comes under the legal question of drinking water, housing and electricity," he says.

One of the major achievements of PRICAO-BF is the establishment of the Ouagadougou Virtual Landing Point (VAP) which takes into account two key elements: the acquisition, installation and configuration of access equipment and international bandwidth management; IRU (irrevocable right of use) supply of international bandwidth capacity.
