Funding of more than $ 200 million, or nearly CFAF 112 billion, will have to be mobilized for the implementation of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Strategy resulting from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD +), reports a briefing note sent Wednesday to the AIP.

This program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from Côte d'Ivoire will be submitted to the technical and financial partners before to be finalized in September 2018. The start-up phase will take place in four regions namely Guémon, Cavally, Gboklè and Nawa, revealed the Permanent Executive Secretary of REDD + Ivory Coast, Ahoulou Kouamé Ernest during the validation of the evaluation report of the preparation phase of the mechanism

"The preparatory phase of REDD + Cote d'Ivoire recorded significant progress from 8.8% in May 2016 to 58.8% in June llet 2018 ", welcomed Mr. Ahoulou Kouamé, adding that it has progressed thanks to the actions taken by all stakeholders through multisectoral coordination and intersectoral collaboration.

A significant advance that he believes is justified by the provision of a national architecture namely the reference level estimated at 40 million carbon, the national forest monitoring system, environmental and social safeguards and the national REDD + strategy. [19659002] Ivorian forests increased from 16 million hectares in 1900 to 3.4 million hectares in 2015, more than 75% in less than half a century. The REDD + project aims to contribute to the global fight against climate change and especially to restore its forest cover by 20% by 2030.
