Fuel price crisis in Guinea: The government statement

[ad_1]

The Government wishes to remind the national and international opinion that the liter of diesel and gasoline was sold at a uniform price of GNF 10,000 in 2014.

In January 2015, due to the observed trend of world price per barrel, this price was reduced, at the initiative of the Government, to GNF 9000 / liter.

Going beyond the provisions of the tripartite memorandum of understanding of 19 February 2016 which committed the Government to to maintain the price of a liter of fuel at GNF 8,000 until December 2016, the Government maintained this price until June 30, 2018 and this despite the sharp rise in world oil prices that passed over the period from $ 46 to approximately $ 78, a variation of 69%.

The maintenance of the price of fuel at GNF 8,000 / liter forced the Government to grant increasingly strong subsidies in the form of a partial waiver of his rights and t axes. Thus, from October 2017 to June 2018, the cumulative amount of the subsidy granted by the Government amounts to an aggregate amount of about GNF 765 billion. This is a loss of about $ 100 billion a month for the public treasury.

Notwithstanding this state of affairs, the Government maintains a sustained effort to subsidize many essential goods that directly affect people's lives. such as rice, sugar, flour, electricity supply, etc …

This subsidy, normally intended to lighten the basket of the housewife, benefits rather economic agents with much more important resources

The maintenance of this subsidy is the source of a large flow to the destination of certain neighboring countries.

The fuel imported by Guinea is sold by traffic in the neighboring countries, where fuel is more expensive

This situation was no longer sustainable in the light of our country's commitments to its technical and financial partners. [19659002] The Government reaffirms therefore its total willingness to enter into negotiations with the social partners with a view to identifying accompanying measures to alleviate the impact of this increase on the brave Guinean populations. This dialogue can only be conducted in a climate of serenity in the country and trust between the actors concerned.

The Government is already informing the people of Conakry back on track as early as this week of Express Train Conakry- Kagbelen as well as the in circulation of a quarantine bus before the end of the month to improve transport to Conakry and its immediate surroundings

Furthermore, the Government is ready to enter into negotiations as soon as possible with the Carriers Union to harmonize urban and intercity rates.

The Government calls on Guinean citizens to take responsibility so that this situation is not used to jeopardize the social peace and tranquility of the Guinean population.

In any case, the Government reassures the Guinean populations that all the necessary measures were taken to preserve the order ublic and to ensure the safety of goods and persons.
