The 53rd Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to be held on July 31, 2018, in Lome, Togo, will devote part of his program for the swearing in of the new president of the Commission of the regional organization, Jean-Claude Kassi Brou
It is at the end of their 52nd ordinary session held on December 16, 2017 in Abuja , in Nigeria, that the West African leaders have assigned the post of President of the said Commission to Côte d'Ivoire.
They also approved the appointment of Jean-Claude Kassi Brou to this post for a term of four ( 4) years from March 1, 2018.
Until his appointment as President of the Commission, Jean-Claude Kassi Brou was Minister of Industry and Mines in Côte d'Ivoire since October 2012.
Previously, he had held the post Economic and Financial Adviser to the Ivorian Prime Minister, from 1991 to 1995. In 1996, he will be appointed Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, a post he will hold until 1999. During this period and in parallel with his duties, he was Also the Chairman of the Privatization Committee
Jean-Claude Kassi Brou also worked for eight years at the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), where he successively held the positions of Director of International Relations and that of Studies, until 2005.
He then headed the Department of Economic Studies and the Mint, before being appointed Special Advisor to the Governor and Comptroller General from 2007 to 2008.
He was also the World Bank Resident Representative for Chad from 2010 to 2012.
The new head of the executive body of ECOWAS holds a doctorate in economics, a Master's degree (MBA) in Finance from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, United States of America, and another master's degree from the National University of Côte d'Ivoire. 19659003] He began his professional career at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 1982 as a senior economist and served in Senegal from 1990 to 1991 as Resident Representative of the IMF.
Claude Kassi Brou is also author of an article entitled "Adjustment Program in Senegal" (1988 – IMF Survey), and a book: "Privatization in Côte d'Ivoire: Challenges and Practices" (2008, the Harmattan, Paris)
He speaks French as well as English, and understands Portuguese as well as Spanish.
Jean-Claude Kassi Brou is married with two children.
