La Marseillaise: the incredible story of the creation of the French anthem – Latina

[ad_1]

The Marseillaise is the one of the most famous national anthems in the world . Its history is however a little less, and its name remains a true false track concerning its origin .

The Marseillaise takes a soap in Strasbourg

The French anthem is indeed not born, as one might legitimately think, in Marseilles, and even less in 1789 . Here are already two ready-made ideas swept away with a reverse verse

Its history begins during the war against Austria declared on April 20, 1792 . After two months of uninterrupted fighting, the Baron de Dietrich and mayor of Strasbourg is put in the head that lacks a warrior song to mobilize the troops . He then asks to officer Rouget de Lisle, a musician when he can, to compose a unifying anthem in order to exhilarate the soldiers' instinct. Man embarks on writing on the night of June 25, 1792 and gets up in the morning with a piece entitled The War Song for the Army of the Rhine

The war then goes on when soldiers from Marseille come to reinforce the ranks . The Marseillais left with the song under the arm and on the lips, and the renamed to their glory . The song knew then a huge success, becoming symbol of revolution, before being prohibited for 30 years by Napoleon . It resurfaced during the second revolution of 1830, before being finally decreed national anthem in 1879 .

The official version includes 7 couplets that we do not really used to hear anymore .
