A hoax over the death of Rowan Atkinson, known for his role as Mr. Bean, arose yesterday, Wednesday, July 18 , on several fake news websites that linked his death to a traffic accident in Los Angeles. Actually, this is not the first time that the actor is declared dead!
Some news sites yesterday published the information according to which the interpreter of Mr Bean, Rowan Atkinson, died; a fake news appeared several times before. Nevertheless, the purpose of the article this time was not just to deceive Internet users: his motives were dangerous. Indeed, after clicking on the link of the information, the Net surfers were directed to an error page affirming that the computer was "lockdown". After that, the user was asked to contact a "support number" to unlock the system. This support number turned out to be a fake number to extract personal information such as credit card information and other bank details. Moreover, as soon as the news began to spread on Facebook and Twitter, fans began to offer their condolences following the "death" of Atkinson.
The latest posts were published on Wednesday, July 18, but previous ones reported that Consett's star, Rowan Atkinson, had died in a car accident in Los Angeles. Information that will have been widely shared.
