On the eve of the official celebrations of the Throne Day, the Mohammed VI International Conference Center hosted a Sunday afternoon meeting organized by the Minister Delegate for Moroccans Residing Abroad and Foreign Affairs. migration, in the presence of several dozen members of the Moroccan community abroad.
In addition to the debates articulated around the themes of "The territorial integrity of the Kingdom" and "The stakes of the South-South cooperation", the high point of this meeting was the intervention of Abdelkrim Benatiq, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of Moroccans Residing Abroad and Migration Affairs. An intervention focused on the preservation of Moroccan identity, the encouragement of a moderate Islam among the Moroccans of the world as well as the new migration policy of the Kingdom.
Evidence of the importance devolved to the Moroccan community of the world in the national development objectives, Abdelkrim Benatiq recalled the many programs aimed at strengthening and consolidating the links of Moroccan immigrants with the country of origin, which pass mainly through the preservation of their Moroccan identity wherever they are.
As Abdelkrim Benatiq said in his speech to Moroccan expatriates: "You are all part of this country and without exception. Today you represent 5 million Moroccans, which is an important part of the national human capital ". And to emphasize: "Concern for Moroccans in the world will never be occasional but rather fundamental, because you represent a model of coexistence, integration and respect for the beliefs of others."
Indeed, one of the most striking examples of integration is the practice of moderated Islam by Moroccans in their host countries. Moreover, Abdelkrim Benatiq stressed "the need to strengthen this practice" while castigating "the image conveyed by the West about Muslims and immigrants" while hoping the abolition of the instrumentalization of religion and than migration, for political purposes.
With regard to Morocco's new immigration and asylum policy, the Minister-Delegate recalled that the latter has helped to settle the legal status of nearly 50,000 immigrants, who have been granted several rights identical to those of Moroccan citizens, including the right to benefit from social housing, health care or education. And to add: "This model is based on real humanitarian approaches, far from any political instrumentalization as it is the case in some European countries".
He also highlighted the universal humanitarian and economic significance of the migration issue by drawing the attention of the audience to the "258 million migrants living outside their countries of origin, including half of them are women, who make up 3.4% of the world's population but contribute 9.5% of global GDP ". Abdelkrim Benatiq concluded his remarks with a note of hope, stating that "in today's world, where the era of the borders is over, there would be less conflict if its inhabitants and other decision makers took the time to advocate the universal values ​​of coexistence and respect for others ".
