New York (© 2018 Afriquinfos) – The mandate of the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (Minuad), will be extended until June 30, 2019, following a resolution adopted by the United Nations Security Council on Friday.

Resolution 2429, supported by 15 members of the Security Council, asks Minuad to consolidate a "comprehensive" approach to the war-torn Darfur region of Sudan for peacekeeping and long-term solutions in Darfur in the prospect of a possible share of the Minuad

The ceiling of the staff of the Minuad will be reduced to 4,050 persons unless the Security Council decides otherwise, according to the resolution.

This new adopted law authorizes the deployment of a necessary police force of not more than 2,500 persons to assist the UNAMID to fulfill its mandate
