Local city and township road crews will again work with the Geauga County Department on Aging Employees and Volunteers to provide garbage collection days for registered seniors aged 60 and over.

First, the elderly must register with the Department on Aging for 2021 at least one week before pickup in order to be placed on the pickup list.

All waste must be outside by garages, outbuildings or in the driveway the day before the scheduled pickup. Don’t leave items at the curb. Local road crews and aging personnel service cannot enter homes.

The garbage collection days are:

City of Chardon: September 17. Register before September 10.

Canton of Hambden: September 24. Register before September 17th.

Township of Middlefield: October 1st. Register before September 24.

For specific guidelines regarding permitted waste or to register for pickup, call 440-279-2129. Please have a list of items to remove.

Young at heart

September 3, 11:30 a.m.

Geauga Young of Heart will meet at the Saint-Anselme Parish Center. Bring your brown bag lunch. Snacks and coffee will be provided. Chester Township Police Chief Mark Purchase, who will retire next year, will be our keynote speaker.

Meetings will be held again on the first and third Friday of each month. Members from 2020 do not have to pay membership fees. However, anyone wishing to register for the rest of the year can register for $ 10.

Advanced guidelines

The Geauga County Bar Association Advance Directives Committee and Western Reserve Hospice will present information and answer questions regarding health care powers of attorney and living wills at Chardon Senior Center.

They will distribute the standard forms and return on September 21 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with lawyers from the Bar of Geauga to help the elderly fill out the forms and notarize them, giving the elderly time to think about what to expect. ‘they want personally and who they would like to talk to. on their behalf if they are unable to do so.
