The Kansas City Public School Board of Trustees is currently accepting applications from those interested in serving as a representative on the KCPS Pension System Board of Trustees. The KCPS Board of Directors will select a representative for a four (4) year term (January 1, 2022 to December 2025) on the Kansas City Public School Retirement System Board of Directors.
The provisions of Section 169.291, paragraph 1 of the Revised Missouri Statutes read as follows:
“1. The general administration and responsibility for the proper functioning of the pension system is hereby vested in a board of twelve persons who are resident taxpayers of the school district as follows:
(1) Four directors appointed for a four-year term by the Board of Education; provided, however, that the terms of the first four directors so appointed begin immediately after their appointment and expire respectively one, two, three and four years from the date on which the pension plan comes into force; “
The Board of Directors of KCPSRS is responsible for ensuring that the pension system is properly governed and managed with the aim of protecting the assets of the Fund; create and maintain an atmosphere that encourages frank and collegial discussions between the board and management; and establishing and communicating board policies and priorities and monitoring performance.
Each member of the board of directors acts as a trustee of the pension system and attends regular board meetings which are normally held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the first Monday of each month; and complete at least six hours of board training each year.
Those interested in serving on the KCPSRS Board of Directors can submit their name for review by sending a resume or substantive statement with full contact information to: Office of Board Services, 2901 Troost Avenue, Room 202, Kansas City MO 64109 , or by email [email protected]. To be considered, individuals must reside within the KCPS district boundaries.
The deadline to submit a resume is Monday, October 4, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. The KCPS Board of Directors will hold interviews during the month of November 2021 and will complete its selection process by December 8, 2021.
