Research conducted by Israeli Ben Gurion University scientists in the Negev suggests that moderate consumption of black wine helps diabetics to improve cholesterol values
Scientists shared 200 patients Type II diabetics in two groups. The first, with an evening meal, drank a glass of mineral water. The other group consumed a glass of red or white wine.
They all adhere to the Mediterranean diet, rich in vegetables, fish, fruits, whole grains, nuts, olive oil and legumes, with little meat, milk and sweets.
After two years, those who drank black wine lowered cholesterol by 10%. White wine, however, had no beneficial effect.
"Antioxidants and phytohemics found in shades of red and purple color can improve cholesterol," say Israeli scientists.
Alcohol, however, can affect the decline in sugar levels to a dangerously low level, particularly in insulin or insulin stimulating drugs. The wine also contains sugars that can dramatically increase blood sugar levels after meals, which is not good for these patients.
If you are diabetic, but if you are not, consume alcohol in small amounts. One drink per day for women and two for men, although to keep sugar under control, is transmitted by B92.
