Since 2012, according to official figures, the number of people suffering from sexually transmitted diseases has tripled.

In a desperate attempt to stop the spread of chlamydia and gonorrhea, French authorities have launched a campaign to encourage the use of condoms.

Public health data in France show that 267,097 people were infected with chlamydia in 2016, while in 2012 there were 76,918, a jump of 247% in just four years.

More gonorrhea patients were also registered, with approximately 50,000 cases in 2016 and 15,000 in 2012.

Figures released earlier this week have prompted the French public health system to launch a campaign to promote the use of a condom "A condom can save your life" .
