West Nile Fever number of patients in Serbia

On West Nile fever, 27 men and 14 women were infected from the territory of the districts of South Banat, South Bačka, Srem, Srednjebanatski and Podunavski and the territory of Belgrade

The disease is transmitted by mosquitoes infected recorded in 53 places in Serbia according to Batuta.

The disease is seasonal in nature, occurs in the summer when the highest activity of mosquitoes. The first patients are registered in the second half of July and most in August

In the EU countries, 19 cases of West Nile fever – Greece, Italy, Hungary and Romania were registered until 39. At present

Western Nile Fever first appeared in Serbia in 2012. Since its first appearance until last year, 574 people have died and 61 have died.

Most people infected with West Nile virus have no consequences, or the disease has symptoms similar to those of the flu.

However, the director of the Institute of Public Health of Serbia "Dr. Milan Jovanovic-Batut", Verica Jovanovic, said today that has no reason to panic when it comes to West Nile fever and this year recalls 2013 when the highest number of confirmed cases of this fever was recorded.

Jovanovic said at a press conference after a meeting of the Commission on Drug Abuse in Schools that since June June 41 a case of West Nile fever, and that in three cases there was a death.

When it comes to death, Jovanovic says that he is an elderly person

"There is no reason to worry, because we are all working together in this fight, "she said.

She urged citizens to take personal preventive measures to avoid walking at nightfall. die when there are most mosquitoes, as well as wear clothes with long socks and sleeves

Jovanovic explained that the virus was transmitted by mosquito bite. In fact, the virus brings migratory birds, mosquitoes are bred, and they transmit the virus to humans.
