Seven-day moving average of COVID-19 cases soars in Wisconsin

MADISON, Wisconsin (WMTV) – The seven-day moving average of new COVID-19 cases has skyrocketed in the past two weeks in Wisconsin.

On Monday, the Department of Health Services posted on Twitter that the state’s seven-day moving average had increased 160% in the past two weeks.

The seven-day moving average was reported at 156 on Monday, up from 60 new cases on July 5.

The rate of positivity for new cases was noted at over 2% on Monday, which health officials said was the highest since late May. Comparatively, the positivity rate peaked on November 12, 2020 at 17.5%.

Other points to note:

  • There were 107 confirmed COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing the state’s never-before-reported total to 614,928.
  • One new death was reported, bringing the total to 7,374.

Slight increase in weekly COVID-19 vaccinations

DHS reports that the number of COVID-19 vaccines increased slightly last week compared to the previous week.

The COVID-19 vaccine dashboard shows that 37,366 vaccines were administered the week of July 11, which is 392 more vaccines administered compared to the previous week. There have been 5.6 million vaccines administered to residents of the state.

Other groups to note:

– Dane County is still striving to reach 70% of its residents with at least one dose, currently at 69.6%.

-51.1% of Wisconsin residents received at least their first dose of vaccine and 48.7% of residents completed their series.
