Seven-day positivity rate continues to trend down, with 91 more hospitalized with COVID-19

MADISON, Wisconsin – Wisconsin’s seven-day positivity rate for new COVID-19 cases has been declining steadily since early January.

The seven-day positivity rate for new tests per person and the seven-day equivalent for the total number of tests per day have been steadily declining since January 5. The seven-day positivity rate for new tests per person fell by seven-tenths of a percentage point while the equivalent of seven days for the total number of tests per day fell by six-tenths of a percentage point, compared to Thursday’s numbers.

While the daily positivity rate is declining, hospitalizations are still changing on a daily basis. According to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, 91 other Wisconsinites have been hospitalized in the past 24 hours. That’s roughly double the number of hospitalizations reported Thursday.

State and local health officials confirmed on Friday, 2075 * new cases of COVID-19, bringing the state’s lifetime total to 530,524 *. Health officials also reported 34 more deaths on Friday, bringing the state’s COVID-19 death toll to 5,734 *.

A total of 56,680 Wisconsinites have now completed their COVID-19 vaccinations. That’s just under 1% of the state’s total population.

To date, health workers have administered 310,256 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Wisconsin has received a total of 779,800 doses since vaccinations began in December. 473,300 additional doses have been ordered, 100,000 of which were in transit on Friday afternoon.

As vaccine rollout continues, state health officials are asking for patience as demand for vaccines far exceeds current supply.
