Two powerful earthquakes hit the coast of the Big Island of Hawaii on Sunday, shaking locals and knocking items off shelves

The US Geological Survey said the first quake was 6.1 magnitude and struck about 17 miles south of Naalehu. The agency says a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck about 20 minutes later in the same area.

The Honolulu National Weather Service said there was no threat of a tsunami.

At a gas station in Oahu, the refrigerator doors were shaken open and objects fell to the floor.

No injuries were immediately reported.
