Police released the results of their investigation into the fire that ravaged the iconic Krispy Kreme store that Shaquille O’Neal owns on Ponce de Leon Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia, earlier this month. The Atlanta Fire Rescue revealed on Friday that the February 10 incident was the result of arson.

Atlanta Fire Department spokesman Sargent Cortez Stafford confirmed this in a statement to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“Investigators believe the fire was intentionally started outside the building. The fire quickly spread inside the structure causing catastrophic damage, ”he said.

Authorities also released two photos of the person who was likely behind the fire at Shaquille O’Neal’s store. Police have yet to identify the suspect since recently released surveillance photos showed him dressed in black while leaving the scene of the crime.

In addition to raising millions of dollars in salary during his playing days in the NBA, Shaquille O’Neal has been praised for several successful business investments he made upon retirement. Shaq initially bought the Krispy Kreme store in 2016 and became the spokesperson for the company.

In an Instagram post after the incident, Shaquille O’Neal also vowed to reopen the store and claimed he would be back stronger than ever.

I hope no one was hurt. But we will come back stronger than ever.

O’Neal chose the Krispy Kreme Atlanta branch for its historical significance, as it once provided free donuts to local churches where mourners gathered after the death of Martin Luther King Jr.
