Sony didn’t want Tom Holland for Spider-Man, says Russo Brothers

First of all, how dare you, Sony.

In a meeting ostensibly about their new movie cherry, Tom Holland and Anthony and Joe Russo aka the Russo Brothers addressed the unseen spider in the room: Tom Holland wasn’t exactly the Spider Man Sony wanted, according to the Russos. With great power comes great responsibility and, according to the Russo Brothers, Sony was not sure if he took on this particular responsibility.

In the interview with British GQ, the Russo brothers told how they had to fight for our patron saint of spoilers.

“We spoke with Feige at Marvel from Holland and he got excited, and then we went to Sony…” says Joe. “And they were like, ‘Let’s think about it for a minute.’ We could tell we were meeting resistance from Sony. So we brought [Holland] we brought it back, brought it back, and we were relentless in our quest to scramble it down the throat of the studio that has that IP address. It boiled down to a fight, but Sony kept dragging their feet … they were reluctant, nervous, to hand over something that could ultimately cost them hundreds of millions of dollars, if not billions. dollars down the line.

But the rest is history. Sony didn’t hesitate and we are now approaching our third Tom Holland Spider-Man film.
