WASHINGTON DC – U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) Today announced that five local airports in Alabama will benefit from more than $ 4.3 million in grants from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Funding was provided by the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) for various airport improvements to support infrastructure construction, safety advancements, and land acquisition.
“I am proud that Alabama is receiving $ 4.3 million in federal funding to improve the development of our airport infrastructure,” said Senator Shelby. “These five grants are significant investments in the safety, efficiency and expansion of airports large and small in our state. In addition, local communities will be directly impacted by these advances, which will help improve the quality of life of residents, increase tourism and stimulate development. “
Each of these FAA grants is administered under the FY2021 Airport Improvement Program (AIP) (FY21), which was funded under the FY21 Annual Credits Program which was signed in law in December.
The 5 grants were awarded to local airports in Alabama, in the amount of $ 4,300,365 for the following airport projects:
- Mobile city center airport, Mobile, Alabama – $ 1,330,515 to build, expand and improve security zones
- Montgomery-Dannelly Field Regional Airport, Montgomery, Alabama – $ 1,171,544 to rehabilitate an apron
- Bill Pugh Field Airport, Russellville, Alabama – $ 1,066,541 to rehabilitate a runway and its lighting
- Monroe County Aeroplex Airport, Monroeville, Alabama – $ 385,146 to acquire land to develop
- Bessemer Airport, Bessemer, Alabama – $ 346,619 to rehabilitate a traffic lane and its lighting
