SHERBURN – Sherburn City Council met on Monday and approved engineers from Bolton and Menk as the operator of the sewage treatment plant to take care of condition and mandated paperwork and more Again.
The council also discussed the sculptor’s proposed inventory system for liquor stores. Store revenue has declined and the board has been trying to find a good inventory control system for some time. This system would track the contents of the bottle and offer an additional 10% savings on city revenue. The system would initially be $ 7,000 and then $ 425 per month, which the board hoped to recoup with the savings.
Council also approved the purchase of the property at 211 North Prairie and the demolition of the house to open the property for sale for future development. The county valued the 100-by-140-foot property for $ 2,500 for sale at the county meeting this week. The council would like to open properties around town that could be developed for homes instead of a non-local buyer letting the homes sit for years without repair, improvement or demolition.
The preliminary 2.6 percent tax levy has been approved with the understanding that the levy may be lowered as discussions continue until the December deadline.
The Food Truck event was scheduled for October 4th at Sherburn Park. The admin noted that the sellers have requested an alternate date as they have had success with other events.
The administrator reported that the number four well is functioning well and that work on the water system is continuing. Bids on the wastewater rehabilitation project were a bit higher than expected, but funds from resources are also expected to be higher.
The next city council meeting is scheduled for October 4 at 5 p.m. at City Hall.
