MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) – The Berkeley County Sheriff says he doesn’t think citizens’ medical choices are a concern of his.

Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis said he is releasing his statement due to presidential orders regarding the COVID-19 vaccination mandate.

“President Biden’s recent executive orders have raised questions and concerns from our citizens. I am committed to protecting the constitutional rights of those who live and work in Berkeley County. Lewis said. “We would like to remind citizens; local law enforcement cannot enforce federal laws. Personally, I do not believe that the medical choices of our citizens are of concern to your sheriff. I would recommend our citizens to consult with their primary care physicians to establish a medical plan that meets their individual needs, if desired. “

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said it has not mandated employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19, but employees should exercise caution if they deem it necessary.
