SHIELD agents present new LGBTQ character

The first season of SHIELD agents is in full swing and has already introduced a range of new characters. Dr. Marcus Benson, played by Barry Shabaka Henley, is one of the last people to join the SHIELD team. The episode follows May and Mack while they recruit Benson as department head in their plan to reopen the SHIELD Academy. During their meeting, Benson reveals that he lost an important person to him.

"I had a habit of sharing a cocktail with the love of my life, but when he died, it became a way of remembering him … or d & # 39; forget. I do not know, "he shared.

In addition to being the team's new brain (since Simmons went looking for Fitz), it was revealed that Benson was also a teacher, academic, and friend of May's late husband, Andrew. It is already proving useful to the science department and we are eager to discover what it will bring to the table.

Benson is not the first LGBTQ character in the series. Back in the third season, Joey Gutierrez (Juan Pablo Raba) joined the short-lived team of Secret Warriors, but his stint in the series lasted only six episodes. Joey, however, is considered to be the first openly homosexual character in the Marvel Film Universe (although the title belongs to him) Avengers: End of the game).

Although we would like to see a LGBTQ romance in the show, we'll assume that it will not come from Benson. It's not that the older novels are not nice to watch (did you see a Nancy Meyers movie?), But there's no other character with which to pair it yet. We still hope that a romance could flourish in the future for Piper (Briana Venskus), the only other LGBTQ character in the series. Although her sexuality has never been explicitly discussed, she alluded to the fact that she had drawn May in the past and once (sadly) claimed that Daisy was not her kind.

SHIELD agents Clark Gregg (Phil Coulson / Sarge), Ming-Na Wen (Melinda May), Chloe Bennet (Daisy "Quake" Johnson), Elizabeth Henstridge (Jemma Simmons), Iain De Caestecker (Fitz), Henry Simmons (Mack), Natalia Cordova-Buckley (Elena "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez) and Jeff Ward (Deke).

SHIELD agents airs Friday night on ABC at 8 / 7c.
