Do you still feel tired or do you suffer from prolonged and unexplained loss of appetite? Do not like your hobbies or have trouble sleeping?
According to mental health experts, these are the first signs of depression that can even lead to suicide.
However, Dr. Felix Opondo, a psychologist, says that suicide can be prevented if these signs are detected and if the patient (s) are treated in time.
"Signs that a person can commit suicide are always written on the wall. Someone can not just wake up and commit suicide. The decision to commit suicide is always a trigger, but before that, there must be hints everywhere, "said Dr. Opondo.
One of these signs, he said, is that most of the time, before committing suicide, a person will attempt to make himself known by writing a suicide note, publishing his premeditated decision on the media. or by phoning a friend.
"So when no one joins them, then they feel justified in continuing the act," he said. "These are signs that people simply fail to see or ignore ignorance."
The founder of the organization for the mentally handicapped in Kenya, Iregi Mwenja, attributes the rise of depression cases to technological advancement and lifestyle change.

"Depression is a common thing and cases increase. The good thing, though, is the heightened awareness in those cases that still affect a majority of society, "said Iregi.
The statistics, he adds, reveal that people aged 14 to 29 are more likely to suffer from depression.
The growth of online games on social media has also increased the number of cases of addiction, while lifestyle changes have contributed to increasing the number of cases of depression.
"Addiction is part of depression, just like being suicidal. Internet addiction is a common phenomenon that leads many people to depression. In social media, people tend to compare their lifestyles to those of others, sometimes pushing them into depression, "Iregi said.
Ruth Nkatha, a psychologist from Befrienders Kenya, an organization that provides emotional support to people with depression, said the reason that the cases of depression seemed to be increasing could be due to the awareness that brought the individuals to ask for help.
Nkatha noted that although the high suicide rate is not clearly explained, some may be related to economic hardship, major changes in life such as job losses, chronic illness or lack of skills. effective in problem solving.
"We have observed that young adult men are more prone to depression than other demographic groups. This is mainly due to society's expectations and pressures. Unemployment and the weak economic base also play a role, "Nkatha added.
Nkatha, however, said a small part of the population was prone to depression – a genetically predisposed population.
These are individuals whose family members have suffered from depression and some have even committed suicide or committed scandalous acts.
"In such cases, one must take into account the antecedents in order to find the appropriate treatment," Opondo said.
Opondo added that the same precautions should be taken when depression is suspected to be the consequence of other diseases.
"Unless an appropriate history is established, an appropriate diagnosis can be missed," he said.
