A star of the wrestling world championship has died in front of hundreds of fans after collapsing during a match in London on Saturday night.

Mexican national Cesar Gonzalez Barron, also known as Silver King, was fighting against Warrior Youth in Lucha Libre's The Greatest Show at The Roundhouse in Camden, London, on his death.

Free Lucha, or free wrestling, is the term used in Mexico for professional wrestling. It is characterized by the wrestlers wearing colorful masks and elaborate costumes face to face during choreographed fights.

The crowd and other wrestlers thought it was part of the series until people rushed to the ring to help him after his collapse.

"They were struggling and then something seemed to go wrong," said a witness to the Sun.

"While they were struggling, the situation stopped and they seemed not to be in sync at all, and the other wrestler started practicing CPR," said the witness.

"It was scary, they evacuated everyone but it does not seem that an ambulance arrived before at least 20 minutes."

The cycle stated that there had been an "incident" during the show but the venue could not comment further.

Shortly after, Lucha Libre's official Twitter account published a picture of the wrestler with subtitles "Rest in Peace".

"Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide joins the mourning of the Luchistica family following the passing of Cesar Cuauhtemoc Gonzalez Barron & # 39; SILVER KING & # 39 ;."

Barron, 51, was a star in his native Mexico and also starred alongside comedian actor Jack Black in the 2005 Nacho Libre movie.

Barron was raised in a family of Mexican wrestlers and his father, Dr. Wagner, was a popular lucha libre fighter of the '60s. Silver King competed in the Wrestling World Championship between 1997 and 2000.

The stars of the wrestling and the fans have paid tribute to Silver King over the news.

El Hijo del Santo (Son of the Saint), another famous Mexican wrestler also known as Jorge Rodriguez, expressed his "deep regret" after the death of his "partner in many battles".

Sin Cara (No Face) said the wrestler's world was mourning again.

"Sad news today," he writes on Twitter, "Silver King has died in London."
