LONDON – A well-known Mexican wrestler who shared the spotlight The comedy "Nacho Libre" died of a heart attack after collapsing on stage in London.

Cesar Cuauhtemoc Gonzalez Barron, the star of the free lucha known as Silver King, played Saturday night at the Roundhouse The North London site said Sunday on Twitter that he had died during the event and that more information about the circumstances was sought.

Gonzalez, 51, appeared as a champion and comic wrestler in the 2006 movie "Nacho Libre", in which Jack Black played the role of a monk who wanted to be a masked luchador. Free lucha is a form of popular struggle in Mexico characterized by colorful masks, elaborate costumes and acrobatic techniques.

Lucha Libre World, who promoted the Roundhouse event, said in a statement that the star "suffered a cardiac arrest during the performance in the show and unfortunately passed away".

Spectator Roberto Carrera Maldonado told the BBC that the wrestler's state had appeared "staged" as part of the fight, before efforts were made to revive him.

"We were all very shocked and what was going on was not clear," Maldonado said. "I had the impression that they did not know what to do."

The ambulance service in London said the doctors arrived five minutes after their call to the Roundhouse on Saturday, but the patient was declared dead at the scene.

Silver King competed at the World Wrestling Championship between 1997 and 2000.
