Simi Valley, Calif. (KABC) – A woman allegedly armed with a knife in Simi Valley was shot and injured by police on Tuesday evening, officials said.

Simi Valley Police said police responded to the unrest around 7:45 p.m. at Seven-Eleven stores near Yosemite and Los Angeles streets.

Police said the woman was armed with a knife when police contacted her near Yosemite Avenue in 1810.

The woman reportedly threatened to attack the local population. The woman was fired after indicting the police, ignoring repeated orders to drop the knife.

Witness Jonathan Shay said the woman ran directly towards the officer “as she tried to attack him”.

“He was forced to shoot, and I think he shot him twice, I mean,” Shay said. “It was pretty crazy. I’ve never seen anything like it, but I’m glad they’re there to protect us.

Police said the woman was beaten and transferred stably to a local trauma center.
