It’s time to stop the music. Simon Cowell’s singing competition series “The X-Factor” was canceled after 17 years on the air.
UK broadcaster ITV confirmed the news and said “there are currently no plans for the next series of ‘The X Factor’ at this point.”
The show was created by Cowell, 61, and first aired in 2004. Over the years, 445 episodes have aired. The final season aired in 2018.

The series launched the careers of several successful British musicians and boy bands you’ve heard of, such as One Direction, Leona Lewis and Little Mix.
During each episode, the singers perform their musical acts on stage as a panel of judges criticize their abilities. Cowell heads the judges’ table alongside Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger.
In February 2020, the network announced that “The X-Factor” would be on hiatus, but would return in 2021. Several months later, Kevin Lygo, TV director at ITV, revealed at the Virtual Edinburgh TV Festival that he There was no guarantee that the show would ever come back. “It’s not definitely back, it could come back, and if it is, the format will be changed,” he said. “Simon controls him more than we do. When does he want him to come back, how does he want to come back? Hopefully we can be a part of it.”
The former “American Idol” judge came up with the idea for “The X-Factor” to replace “Pop Idol”, the UK parent show of the FOX music competition series. “Pop Idol” originally ran from 2001 to 2003 and spawned several international releases.

Cowell’s next TV show will be “Walk the Line”, a music quiz for ITV. While the series has yet to set a premiere date, the six-part show will debut before the end of 2021. Each episode will feature multiple musical acts that will compete for a cash prize.
The two remaining acts will have to decide whether to withdraw from the game or proceed to the next stage of the competition. The prize will get bigger and bigger the longer the participant stays.
