SINGAPORE – The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Saturday, July 24, reported 130 new cases of COVID-19 infection in Singapore, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 64,054.

There are 127 new infections transmitted locally within the community, of which 75 are linked to the Jurong fishing port cluster while five are linked to the KTV cluster, the health ministry said in a press release. The latest figures bring the number of cases for the two groups to 741 and 232, respectively.

Sixty-nine of the local cases are linked to past cases and have already been placed in quarantine, while 29 are linked to previous cases and were detected through surveillance. 29 other cases are unrelated.

Among the new cases are six people over the age of 70, unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and at risk of serious illness.

There are also three imported cases, which have already been placed on Stay-at-Home Notice (SHN) or isolated upon arrival in Singapore. One was detected on arrival, while the other two developed the disease during NHS or isolation.

A total of 490 cases are currently hospitalized. Most are doing well and are under observation. There are currently 12 cases of serious illness requiring supplemental oxygen, and one in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU). None of these 13 cases is fully vaccinated. Nine people over the age of 60, totally unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, became very ill.

An 83-year-old Singaporean woman died from a COVID-19 infection on Saturday. The woman, who was unvaccinated and had a history of hypertension and high cholesterol, was linked to the 121 Bukit Merah View group, which has 94 cases to date.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community fell from 238 cases the previous week to 1,027 cases last week. A high number of cases is expected in the coming days as authorities step up efforts to detect them in order to contain their spread in the community. The number of unrelated cases in the community also fell from 17 cases the previous week to 120 cases last week.

The seven-day moving average number of all community related cases and all community unrelated cases is 129.6 and 17.1, respectively.

There are two new clusters on Saturday, including one linked to Samy’s Curry restaurant with eight cases and another linked to case 65791 with four cases so far. In total, there are currently 26 active clusters, ranging from three to 741 infections. As there were no more cases linked to the Case 64184 and Case 64264 clusters during the last two incubation periods (i.e. 28 days), the clusters were closed.

The Department of Health is investigating cases of COVID-19 infection involving people who have visited Samy’s Curry restaurant. There is likely a transmission going on at the restaurant, he said.

Samy’s Curry restaurant will be closed to all public from Sunday to August 8 to break the chain of transmission and allow for a thorough cleaning of the premises.

Everyone who works in the restaurant has been placed in quarantine and will be tested during quarantine. To quickly uncover any cases of community infection, authorities will also extend free COVID-19 testing to members of the public who have visited Samy’s Curry restaurant between Monday and Friday. They can refer to https://go.gov.sg/samy-testing for more details on test operations.

All visitors to the Dempsey area are advised to closely monitor their health and minimize social interaction for 14 days from the date of their visit or interaction. They are encouraged to see a doctor immediately if they are unwell.

As of Friday, a total of 7.06 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines as part of the national immunization program were administered. Some 4.22 million people have received at least one dose of the vaccine. Of the 2.96 million people who completed the full vaccination schedule, 120,313 of them are cured who received at least one dose and the remaining 2.84 million received their second dose.

In addition, 81,227 doses of Sinovac vaccine were administered on Friday, covering 67,373 people. Those who have received CoronaVac vaccine locally from Sinovac are not included in Singapore’s national immunization numbers.
