SINGAPORE – Booster vaccines will be offered to people aged 30 and over who completed their immunization regimens about six months ago from Saturday, October 9, the multi-ministerial COVID task force said.

An SMS with a personalized reservation link will be sent to the mobile number that people had registered for their first two doses in order to make an appointment. They can receive their booster dose at any participating vaccination center or public health preparedness clinic (PHPC).

Likewise, booster shots will be offered to healthcare workers and COVID-19 frontline workers who completed their vaccination regimens about six months ago. The authorities are working with various institutions to gradually extend booster vaccinations to eligible people in institutional settings.

The announcement comes after the Expert Committee on COVID-19 Vaccination (EC19V) recommendations for people aged 30 and over, and healthcare and frontline workers to get their booster shots .

The Department of Health (MOH) said in a statement that healthcare and frontline workers are more likely to come into regular contact with cases of COVID-19 and are at higher risk of infection.

People and staff in institutionalized settings, such as prisons and residential care facilities, find themselves in settings predisposed to large outbreaks of COVID-19.

“Expanding the recall program to people aged 30 and over will also help to increase the overall level of protection for the population,” the health ministry said.

On October 3, Singapore launched the recall program for people aged 50 to 59, in addition to those aged 60 and over.

As of October 7, nearly 372,000 people had received their booster dose. About 57% of people aged 50 to 59 and 72% of people aged 60 and over eligible for their booster dose have either made an appointment or already received their booster dose.
