Fifteen men and 13 women have been arrested for alleged involvement in illegal gambling activities, police said in a press release issued on Tuesday (November 27th).
The suspects, aged 37 to 85, were arrested during a two-day operation conducted by the Central Police Division on 23 and 24 November.
Five men and two women were arrested along Race Course Road for illegal production of books and disguises. A sum of $ 12,781 was seized during the recession.
In addition, 10 men and 11 women were arrested along Jalan Besar and Temple Street for offenses under the Common Play Houses Act. Game props were seized during this operation.
Investigations against suspects are ongoing.
Anyone who gambles with a bookmaker is liable to imprisonment for up to six months or a fine of up to $ 5,000. Those found guilty of illegal bookmaking face up to five years' imprisonment and a fine of $ 20,000 to $ 200,000.
Persons found guilty of gambling in public are liable to imprisonment for up to six months, a fine of up to $ 5,000, or both.
