SINGAPORE: A total of 29 smokers near Yew Tee Point and Jurong Point were fined Monday, November 26, after being caught with unpaid cigarettes.
In an article posted on Facebook on Thursday, Singapore's customs authorities said their agents had carried out checks on smokers in the area and fined them between S $ 500 and S $ 800.

"Singapore Customs is conducting these regular operations all over the island to remove the demand for unpaid cigarettes," the paper added.
An offender who has in his possession up to a pack of unpaid cigarettes will be fined $ 500.
Harsher penalties will apply if the offender is found with more than one pack of unpaid cigarettes and / or is a repeat offender.

Earlier this month, customs officers seized nearly 12,000 cartons of unpaid cigarettes during several raids in the Tuas industrial zone.
On November 23, immigration agents and control authorities seized 7,500 cartons of unpaid cigarettes under Tuas control.
