We can always count on sewing to remind us how extravagant fashion can be. The couture parades of the fall of 2018, which ended Thursday (yes, during the summer) in Paris, were no exception to the rule.

There were breathtaking robes of Zuhair Murad and Elie Saab holders) at Maison Margiela, very, very big hair at Valentino's and many fuzzy pink sets across the board. At Givenchy, we also saw another beautiful collection of Clare Waight Keller – the woman behind the iconic Duchess of Sussex wedding dress. And at Chanel, the model Adut Akech has made history by becoming the second black woman to close the fashion show as a "bride" designer Karl Lagerfeld. (Alek Wek was the first in 2004.)
