4 points of debate as rivals Liverpool and Premier League watch progress in the Champions League

Liverpool have a big date in Paris as the two clubs in Manchester try to qualify for the last 16 games of the Champions League with a game to spare.

Tottenham is looking to maintain his hopes of qualifying at home at Inter Milan and knows only victory.

Here, Press Association Sport sets the game on an intriguing set of mid-week encounters.

The reds need to sort the blues off

Liverpool has been outstanding in the Premier League this season, but the story has been different in Europe.

The defeats in Naples and Red Star Belgrade were a shock and a similar story in Paris could leave the finalists of last season in danger of being eliminated in the group stage.

Paris St Germain – beaten 3-2 at Anfield in September – needs a win to keep their hopes of qualification alive and hopes that stars Neymar and Kylian Mbappe will be in shape after the weekend injury in Toulouse.

Can Tottenham reproduce his form in the Premier League?

Tottenham was effectively two seconds from the elimination in the Champions League when Harry Kane announced the victory at Wembley against PSV Eindhoven.

Kane's goal offered a lifeline, though the Spurs are likely to beat Inter Milan on Wednesday and then Barcelona at Camp Nou to qualify for the last 16.

Unrealistic?

Maybe not if the Spurs can break free from their lethargy in Europe and find the form that demolished Chelsea on Saturday and brought seven wins in eight Premier League matches.

Objectives needed at Old Trafford

Manchester United was one more day to forget Saturday as Crystal Palace held them in a draw.

This is the fourth time in all competitions that United have beaten space at home, and Jose Mourinho's team has not yet scored in the Champions League at Old Trafford.

The young boys in the group in flagrante delicto seem to be the ideal opponent to end this race, especially as United won the 3-0 win in September.

Victoire and United reach the last 16 games, provided Valencia does not win at Juventus. All the rest will just increase the pressure on Mourinho.

Revenge on the agenda of the city

It seems for a long time that Manchester City was humiliated at home by Lyon. The French won 2-1 at Etihad Stadium in the first group match, but since then City has scored 11 goals by beating Hoffenheim and Shakhtar Donetsk twice.

The last 16 places have not yet been guaranteed, but this should be a formality knowing that the team of Pep Guardiola has won 12 and a draw (in Liverpool) since the record of Lyon.

Revenge of the September defeat will add extra motivation.
