SINGAPORE – In another case of food poisoning, 131 people became ill after consuming food from a caterer. Among the victims were kindergarten 2 students and teachers who were participating in a learning camp.
In a joint statement, the National Agency for the Environment (NEA), the Ministry of Health and the Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) said they were investigating an outbreak of gastroenteritis related to food consumption prepared by FoodTalks Caterer & Manufacturer, located at Shimei East Kitchen in Bedok on Monday, November 26th.
On Tuesday, 131 cases of gastroenteritis were reported. None of the victims were hospitalized.
The MS, NEA and AVA proceeded on Tuesday with a joint inspection of the caterer's premises. As part of these investigations, food handlers were sent for stool screening and samples of food and the environment were taken for analysis, and were indicated the agencies.
According to the Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao, the victims of food poisoning had participated in a learning camp organized by Busy Bees Asia.
This is the third in a series of serious incidents of food poisoning that occurred during the past month.
On November 6, 81 people suffered from gastroenteritis after eating bento boxes provided by the River Valley Restaurant's Spize restaurant. A 38-year-old man died and at least 45 people were hospitalized.
Just last week, 190 people became ill after eating food prepared by TungLok Catering at Singapore Expo's Max Atria. More than 1,000 bento boxes have been prepared for the Lifesavers & Connect public exhibition, organized by the Singapore Civil Defense Force, from 23 to 25 November. None of the 190 people affected were hospitalized.
