The new project is inspired by Rolex's favorite Montoya, Daytona watch. Designed to celebrate the iconic 24-hour American sports car race won three times by Montoya, the Rolex has been in production since 1963.
It took two years of development at Artisans de Genève to carry out the "La Montoya", each piece being cut, tilted and finished by hand in the infamous Valee de Joux.
CART champion and double winner of the Indianapolis 500 tournament, Montoya, said: "The Geneva craftsmen embody what I was looking for in someone who would build a watch for me."
"After my last watch was so successful, it was hard to find anything better and they gave me the opportunity to build something that had not been done before, and it could not be done. be better.
"I've always been passionate about the Rolex Daytona, I probably have seven or eight.
"I've won the Rolex 24 three times, and it's a watch that really concerns all my races, so I was amazed when the idea of making a Daytona skeleton came up." Artisans de Geneve went far beyond anything I could ask.

The changes from the Rolex Daytona include the original bezel that has been replaced by a tachometer, machined into a forged carbon block.
More particularly, the dials of the counters were hand painted in yellow, blue and red in the honor of Colombia, the country of origin of Montoya.
The exposed mechanism includes a 22 carts gray gold rotor, emblematic design element of Artisans de Geneve, and a transparent sapphire back engraved and numbered individually.
Taking "hundreds of hours" to produce, each component is polished by a combination of brushing and sanding.
