The 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 3.6-liter Jeep petrol engine that powers the Gladiator at launch delivers 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The unit is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission with an optional eight-speed automatic transmission. Starting in 2020, Jeep will also begin offering a 3.0-liter, six-cylinder diesel producing 260 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. The eight-speed automatic transmission will be the only gearbox option for this engine.

Regardless of the engine, one of the two available 4×4 systems is channeled on all four wheels, allowing for permanent torque management for optimum grip. The Gladiator Sport and the Overland Gladiator come with a two-speed transfer case with a gear ratio of 2.72: 1 low, while the Rubicon Gladiator features a 4×4 Rock-Trac system with a ratio "4LO" of 4: 1. The Rubicon also offers an improved total suspension stroke with electronic disconnect from the stabilizer bar. The angle of approach of the gladiator is 43.6 degrees and the starting angle of 26 degrees. Jeep also promises a tow of 3,470 kg and a payload 4×4 of 725 kg, the best of its class.
