SINGAPORE: A 42-year-old Indonesian national has been sentenced to six weeks in prison for attempting to bribe an officer of the Immigration and Control Points Authority (ICA), announced Friday (February 22nd) the Office of Investigation on Corrupt Practices (CPIB).
Marsari was charged on February 15 with offering $ 170 to the ICA agent, Zulkhairi Abu Bakar, as a bribe to release him from custody, the official said. CPIB in a press release.
Marsari was arrested on February 14 when he presented his agent with an altered passport after arriving at the Singapore Cruise Center from Batam.
Mr. Zulkhairi then informed Marsari that he had committed an offense by presenting the falsified passport.
Marsari replied that he "wanted to go home" and took out 170 Singaporean dollars out of his pocket to offer it to the officer so that he could be released, according to CPIB.
However, Mr. Zulkhairi rejected the bribe and reported the case to CPIB.
"Singapore takes a strict zero tolerance approach to corruption. Giving bribes or attempting to bribe another person or entity is a serious offense, "said CPIB.
Those convicted of the offense could be fined up to S $ 100,000, imprisoned for up to five years, or both.
