Lee Chi Wai, 32, helped the couple hide $ 6.7 million in cash and 11 kg of gold worth $ 626,500 in his Sengkang apartment.
After recognizing his role in the scam, Lee was jailed for five years and eight months yesterday.
Lee is the first of five people charged in court for being sentenced last year.
The case against his mother, Tan Yoon Nooi, 60, his sister Lee Lai Leng, 40, her husband Ng Cheng Kwee, 42, and her friend David Lim Wee Hong, 40, are pending.
Ng would be the brain of the scam, which has received nearly $ 40 million in fake claims from SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG). The union submitted more than 8,000 fraudulent tuition claims to SSG, using nine front-end companies whose bank accounts were credited with $ 39.9 million.
Of this amount, $ 27.8 million was withdrawn and a portion handed over to Lee's sister, Lee Lai Leng, for safety.
Lee Lai Leng first transferred $ 49,950 into her account, claiming that she could not have the money in his. She bought a safe from her brother and went to his apartment to invest large sums of money.
On November 1, she told him to empty the vault and hide the wealth elsewhere. Lee kept him at a friend's house, but the brothers and sisters were arrested the next day.
It was around May last that Lee Chi Wai realized that his sister and her husband were getting richer and richer.
The couple, whose apartment had been taken over after the failure of Ng's coffee company, began driving a Mercedes of the occasion and was looking to buy a new home. Lee asked his sister for a loan to buy a car and gave him $ 30,000 on September 9th.
Between September and October of last year, she went to her apartment to place large sums of money in the safe she had planned to deliver.
