SINGAPORE – A 40-year-old man, who was rescued Thursday morning (July 18) from a burning apartment of the Bukit Batok Housing Board, died at the hospital.
The Straits Times learned that the man, who had been burned to third degree on 40% of his body, had died Saturday afternoon at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH).
He was also in a coma since the incident due to a lack of oxygen in his brain.
Police investigate unnatural death
The firefighters saved the man and his wife who were stranded in their apartment on the 26th floor of Block 293D Bukit Batok Street 21 at 12:40 that day.
Officers wearing a respirator opened the wooden door to find the unconscious man, said the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF).
He was taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and transferred to SGH, where he was in the intensive care unit.
His wife, who was also found in the apartment, was taken to SGH for smoke inhalation.
The Bukit Batok MP, Murali Pillai, said in a Thursday message posted on Facebook that the cause of the fire was attributed to two electric scooters. SCDF said that he was still investigating the case.
ST residents said the couple lived in unity with a dog and a parrot. They do not have children.
