A 13-year-old National Junior College student joined the ranks of Singaporean compatriots (including Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong) who won winning titles from the oldest international writing competition in international schools.

"My poem suggests that education must aim to change society for the better – to reach hearts and minds. Education must encourage openness, curiosity, thoughtful questioning of social norms, and challenging discriminatory and prejudiced views, "said Shum.
"Education must also nurture and protect the whole child. Only then will we have the right ingredients for our common future in the field of education. "
