The Los Angeles Lakers are trying to figure out who they are as basketball as new faces come together and a new style of play is emerging. With so many growth opportunities, do they rely too much on LeBron James' talents, and what do young players like Kyle Kuzma, Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram say?
In this episode of the Lakers Nation podcast, host Trevor Lane and guest Hannah Kulik immerse themselves in the question and wonder if the young players on the team are ready to move up a gear.
If this is not the case, it is possible that the Lakers are embarking on an exchange to give them a boost this season, which could mean targeting Washington's Wizards guard, Bradley Beal, whose rumors circulate around him for a good part of the season.
Although Beal is perfectly suited to the Lakers because of his ability to shoot, his contract and the opportunity cost he creates can make a deal impossible. The Lakers would not only need to part with valuable assets to land it, but they would also sacrifice some of the salary space that they worked hard to preserve next summer, when players like Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Klay Thompson and others will be free agents.
That said, if an exchange with Beal is not in the cards and the Lakers fail to sign a free All-Star free, the Milwaukee Bucks swingman, Khris Middleton, could be an option. But is it the type of acquisition that will take the Lakers to the next level?
