Jamie Carragher is confident that Liverpool can now count on his defense to win games despite the lack of two key strikers.

Men of Jurgen Klopp had their best start to the season in the Premier League, winning 10 wins and 3 draws in their first 13 days.

They score fewer goals than last season but have improved significantly in defense, tied with Manchester City leaders by conceding five goals.

And the former Reds defender, Carragher, said Sky sports: "It's interesting because the whole season has been narrative and Liverpool will start playing like last season.

"However, we can ask ourselves if Liverpool is slightly different this season.

"Do not forget that there is no Philippe Coutinho. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has shown great motivation and speed from the midfield. The top three were also at the World Cup.

"You now have Virgil van Dijk and a goalkeeper. Is it a bit like the Liverpool teams in which I played?

"Last season, I said that this team was playing football and that our teams had never played. But in fact, it goes back a little to the past of Benitez and Houllier.

"They probably play a little more football than us, but they can count on the defense to win a game."
