China's Xiaomi, the world's fourth-largest smartphone maker, launched a smartphone on Sunday to take advantage of the new, faster 5G mobile networks.

BARCELONA: China's Xiaomi, the world's fourth-largest smartphone maker, unveiled on Sunday a smartphone that will be able to take advantage of the new, faster 5G mobile networks.
The prices of Xiaomi's new offer will start at 599 euros ($ 679.33) when they arrive on the market in May, said Donovan Sung, global product manager for Xiaomi, at an event in Barcelona.
Samsung, which ranks first in the market, ahead of Huawei and Apple, launched Wednesday a 5G phone that should be available early in the summer, at a starting price of US $ 1,980.
"We think it's one of the most competitive prices for a 5G smartphone today and that it will be available very, very soon," Sung said.
Xiaomi initially targeted Asian markets, including India, for expansion abroad, before launching into Spain, France and Italy by the end of 2017.
