Five collector coins that could bring you a fortune in 2019

There are a lot of new pieces arriving this year – choose the right one and you could make paper money.

The Royal Mint marks new plays in 2019, including Sherlock Holmes, Samuel Pepys and Queen Victoria.

And every year, one or two end up worth a lot more than the value on the front.

In 2018, CoventryLive published an article on pieces depicting Beatrix Potter and Paddington Bear changing hands to exceed their supposed value.

This year, the Mirror reports a host of new plays, two of which are the longest standing British monarchs.

There is also a tribute to Staffordshire ceramics giant Wedgwood, founded by Josiah Wedgwood, a member of the West Midlands Lunar Society, a collection of great minds that changed the world during the Industrial Revolution.

Nicola Howell, Director of Consumer Affairs at the Royal Mint, said, "Our 2019 drawings present a range of characters, events and creations of great significance that have had a lasting role in life and culture British.

"These limited edition presentations are the only way to bring all these pieces together in one set and the perfect way to mark special moments in the coming year.

Here's an overview of the new parts along the way:

Sherlock Holmes 50p

A classic Sherlock Holmes silhouette, complete with a harpoon heat pipe and hat, will feature on a commemorative 50p mark marking the 160th anniversary of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The image of the world-renowned literary detective is surrounded by Sir Arthur's stories, including The Hound of the Baskervilles and The Sign of Four.

The creation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has inspired generations of adaptations, re-imaginations, tributes and more.

The man himself had taken a first-class wicket only in a non-negligible cricket career – that of WG Grace. He also played on the same team as Peter Pan's creator, JM Barrie and Jeeves, and the author of Wooster, PG Wodehouse.

D-day coin of £ 2

On June 6, landings of the 75th anniversary of D-Day will be marked with a £ 2 coin. The Allied invasion of Normandy in 1944 was the largest maritime invasion of history.

The coin shows the locations of the Normandy landings, naming the chosen beaches – Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword.

Samuel Pepys £ 2 coin

Diarist Samuel Pepys, who chronicled the great London fire and the plague, will also receive a £ 2 coin, 350 years after his last entry.

When news of the fire reached him, Pepys had collected all the valuables he could and then – to keep him safe – buried wine and Parmesan cheese. The cheese has never been found.

Wedgwood pottery £ 2 each

The 260th anniversary of the founding of one of the world's most famous pottery companies will also be celebrated with a £ 2 coin in Wedgwood pottery.

We can not make firm predictions, but seeing one of the most collectible pottery businesses on a commemorative coin seems deserving of being preserved.

Queen Victoria £ 5 coin

Queen Victoria, born May 1819, will feature on a rare piece worth £ 5, next to a phone, a penny bike and various icons of her reign of six decades.

The issue of £ 5 coins is usually reserved for special royal occasions, the latter having been published on the occasion of the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in May 2018.
