Gizpel is set to rock the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre, Singapore, on November 5, 2018.
Jakarta-based band Gizpel that creates hazed-out jangle pop heavily influenced by the post-punk sounds of the ’80s has a date with Esplanade Outdoor Theatre, Singapore, on November 5, 2018. The band consists of vocalist-bassist Fadillah Ananto, guitarist Joshua Damanik, Raka Prayuga on synthesisers and Alit Wedhantara on drums. In 2015, they released their first EP Short Distance, which featured unique drum machine sounds that have since become the cornerstone of Gizpel’s signature sound. They are part of the rising independent record label Kolibri Rekords.
“The first impression the band (Gizpel) gives is that of an eclectic act that brings together disparate influences to form a unique signature sound. The band always keeps its cool all throughout. Their focus is more on the set they would play, than anything else in the world. That’s how concentrated the youngsters are and that is what gave them a sound beginning, which other bands only dream about” states a press note on the Esplanade website.
Giving an overview of the band, the Kolibri Rekords website states, “Their genuine love of Radio Dept, Beach Fossils and Indonesian electro pop senior Goodnight Electric has made out something truly gloomy, dreamy yet somewhat comforting. The member’s different background, including an 8-bit scene alumni has also contributed a role part in creating a significant soundscape which they have captured on a five-track EP called Short Distance, which out on mid 2015.”
“Short Distance was achieving what others could not even think of, an intuitive mixture of intertwining guitar melodies, timid dreamy vocals, layers of synth and 8-bit drums. On “Juvenile”, they showed a balance between vocal melodies and guitar hooks on a seductive dance tunes while “Loner Train” pumps in with strong guitars, glitchy effects and outro that takes us in a last train to catch after a boring night away. It’s hard to label Gizpel as one or two thing, but pretty sure that Short Distance has emulated the enigmatic ambience that comforts us in that corner of our bedroom,” says the website.
The band will perform on November 5, 2018 at Esplanade Outdoor Theatre, 1 Esplanade Dr, Singapore 038981
