The Bluetooth headphones sound much better than they were a few years ago, but it is still difficult to pair multiple devices. Relatively few headphones make it possible to pair multiple devices, and even then, you must always follow the pairing process with each new device.
Apple is the only company that has truly simplified the multi-device pairing process by linking Bluetooth headphones to W1 chip with your Apple ID and allowing them to work automatically on all your Apple devices – and only on your Apple devices. Now Google takes a page from the Apple book, implementing similar features on Android devices, and Chromebooks will follow soon.
According to Google, the accessories that implemented the company's Fast Pair protocol will be linked to your account and will work on any device running Android 6.0 or later. Support for Chromebooks arrives in 2019.
Fast Pair devices are still quite rare, but Google naturally claims to work to implement the protocol on several headsets, including Jaybird, Anker and Bose.
Of course, the new pairing capabilities will not solve all your Bluetooth problems, because you will not be able to synchronize the headphones on your PC or Mac; I guess more people will want to sync headphones between their laptop and their phone rather than between multiple Android devices.
Yet it is a step forward. Who knows, maybe one day the Bluetooth headphones will be as practical as any business would like.
