Halo: Fireteam Raven hits my old-school arcade corner

Welcome to the world of Halo: Fireteam Raven. It's a new Halo game not for the Xbox console, but for the arcade.

Yes, the arcade. For reasons I do not know (although I suspect it has something to do with the long wait of Halo Infinite ), the new Halo game is an arcade game. It takes place in a giant four-player enclosure equipped with a 130-inch 4K screen. The story projects you as Orbital Drop Shock Troopers playing six chapters in the world of Halo Rings. I did it through three before I had to give up and let other reporters at the event try it out.

The controls are simple: you sit at a gun turret, where you shoot and reload or toss your limited supply of grenades to wipe out enemies. There is also vibratory feedback, which harmonizes well when the action on the screen becomes intense. The graphics are incredibly clear. The frame rate is smooth as butter for the pleasure of four players and the action is non-stop because you will rarely have a break. At the end of my three-chapter run, my hands were already suffering from squeezing the gun turret too tightly.

I am an addict to the old school crisis, so I would have liked more interaction, like duck ability out of the way of laser bolts. But Fireteam Raven still offers a lot of shoot-em-up fun. And it's even better if you're a fan of the Halo franchise.

Halo: Fireteam Raven is already available in the United States at Dave & Busters, and just went to Sydney yesterday. I have to try it in Singapore at Timezone Vivocity, which is the only place you can play here for now
